ROAM at Home: New Build; Picking Colors, DIY Upgrades & Overland Setup

by CHZ

In This Livestream, I want to chat to you guys about all the things that I have planned for the next build, the type of videos to expect, and projects that we are planning to do! I would also love to find out what you guys would love to see in the next build! We looked at what colour wrap the Hilux, and covered a bunch of awesome Overlanding and Offroading Accessories I am planning to use. We also chat about the new and exciting educational and DIY projects I have planned for the Toyota Hilux! This is going to be a fun build, and I hope that once all the vehicle modifications are done, we will all be a bit more bush mechanic savvy!

Check out http://bit.ly/ROAMSITE for more information about the Vehicle, and to tune into the Podcast, and purchase T-shirts and Hoodies to support the Channel.

In Re to the colour, Ive only owned one dark coloured vehicle and learnt my lesson. In hot climates that can climb over 40 degree Celsius the heat soak is significantly higher. White as you mentioned tis he easiest colour to touch-up and match if you ever want to in the future and yes! All vehicles get dirty whether you can see the dirt or not is not important. Something often overlooked is the fact that It's easier to work under the engine bay in low light with a white car due to the contrast of components and vehicle colour. If you ever drop a nut or screw somewhere in the engine bay or checking for fluid leaks, they are easier to trace. That's my 2 cents worth LOL.

Hey Adrian, Iโ€™ve been a subscriber from the beginning and your videos helped me really understand the Jimnyโ€™s pros and cons. Whoever buys that Jimny will be very happy. I nearly bought a Jimny as well but I decided to get a 2017 Jeep JK Unlimited as my overlander project build. I look forward to see what you do with the Toyota, and the green looks pretty awesome color.

Excited to see what you do with the Hilux. Your channel got me so close to buying a Jimny but just collected my 2020 Triton GSR last week here in Australia. Stock at the moment but some mods to come. Good luck mate!

Wow you have got yourself a serious overlander , loved the Jimny but itโ€™s a off-roader not a overlander . Personally I would go for a shogun or a L200 . They are cheaper and just as good as a Toyota , just my opinion . Iโ€™m looking forward to this new build , thank you for sharing

Based on watching your experience I had a good look at the Jimmy but came to conclusion that it was too small for me. After much study my wife is keen on the mitsubishi delica 4wd, myself I love the look and potential of the Toyota FJ Cruiser, not new but a very capable and classy looking beast of a car (consider the Toyota I reckon)

This is a major mistake, so so so many overland channels now, even American ones and overlanding has only been a really big thing for 2 years in USA. You had something different, a micro overlander…. This is a Major marketing misstep

sad to see the Jimny go but….if a BADASS Hilux gets build and you get better trip/trek content then I'm all for it, especially since this vehicle isn't available in the USA either.

Hi Roam, I really loved your channel–yes I did say loved. Your little Jimny did it for me as it was so special. I understand your reason for a larger vehicle but as I said my passion was the Jimny–don't know if I will continue…

I would get the summit bull bar from ARB and the and their rear protection. You can do a lot with ARB for the Hilux. I would check out all their gear. They know how to do it right.

OKIBEARDEDDAD November 21, 2020 - 8:34 am

I would say if you are going to get a Hilux they are good with their diesel engine they have. They drive very well. I would still get the ARB air lockers.

OKIBEARDEDDAD November 21, 2020 - 8:34 am

Get a Isuzu D-Max. I would than get front and rear ARB air lockers. The best option for you is to get the biggest air compressor they offer installed in. I have a Suzuki Jimny JA22 which is a Japan exclusive smaller engine Jimny. I am currently waiting on getting the new one which I order last October.

I am not sure I will get it this year now because of the current world situation. They have said not all of the Suzuki manufacturers are up and running right now. They only have a few that are but may be open soon if not already. I am getting the Suzuki Jimny JB64 which is another Japan exclusive smaller engine one. I live in Okinawa, Japan with my wife who is a local and my daughter.

My wife helped me do this and is going to help me do all the other things I want to do with my new Jimny when I get it. She does not agree with everything I am going to do. But she is going to help either way. It just takes even longer to get the new Jimny here in Okinawa compared to its mainland counterpart. We only get 10-20 a month but who knows the amount we have gotten during this pandemic.

I just look at it this way and say it will be re sooner than later. It also gives me more time to save money for all the mods I want to do to it. I think that is the one good thing about waiting so you can really figure out what you want overall. Well thank you for the videos.

Go the green. If you go grey, I think you'll be locked in to grey for all future builds. Maybe not, just a thought.

I'm probably going 3m perfect blue for my DMax

Why buy such a high risk vehicle? Maybe save a bit more and get a cruiser? Extra strong, long range tanks, etc…

Question

You gonna have jimny & hilux, and use each one for determined things, or say bye to jimny for this?

Reply
Ryan Roux November 21, 2020 - 8:34 am

What do you use to edit the hilux to change colors and stuff?
