My Impossible 5 Minute Trip to North Korea

by MAC

Since 2017 the United States banned Americans from going to North Korea. No travel company will take you to North Korea if you only have a US passport. You would actually be charged with a felony if you visited the DPRK during the travel ban as an American! If you have another passport (non-US) then it is very easy to go on a trip there. This wouldn’t be a problem for most Americans considering that going to North Korea is something that only ‘extreme travelers’ are interested in exploring.

This travel ban presented a huge barrier in my life because I was attempting to travel to every country and break the Guinness World Record for the Youngest Person to Travel to Every Country.

There is a process to apply for a special passport and an exemption to go to North Korea. According to the policy issues by State Department this is only for people engaged in journalism, humanitarian work and people acting in the national interest of the United States.

I tried absolutely everything that you can think of over the course of 2 years in an attempt to properly visit this country but I ran into dead ends at every turn. In the end, the last option was to visit the blue house conference rooms on the Joint Security Area on the Demilitarized Zone between North and South Korea which is considered one of the most dangerous borders in the world.

In no way at all do I feel satisfied with only being able to stand in North Korea for 5 minutes but I’m grateful to have been allowed to step foot in the country to break this Guinness World Record. It was also fascinating to have had such in-depth insight into the relationship between North and South Korea through the experience.

i do really love her , but i don't think its fair to the other guy (whose record she broke) who actually spend time in north korea, while she just entered a house on the border. no hate. just an opinion.

I would like to travel the world but

Money: Got it
Courage: Got it
Passport: only 23 countries allow me to enter.

I love when she said she is grateful to have such a powerful passport..

PS: I am still waiting for my green card approval which is estimated to be approved in 4-7 Years, after that I need to live there for 5 years to get the US passport. I am 29 years old now. my life is over..

Dumb video, seeing that's actually quite possible to go to North Korea this is just a wast of YouTube storage space. there's nothing impossible about going to North Korea…. even Americans can go. you just need Russian or Chinese connections so you can pose working for them or something like that. this video is just clickbait…

Hey, I don't know if you reply to Dm's but if you ever get the time and do, How much do you think it would cost in total, to travel to every country in the world? (Consider that you've been to no country at all, and start in the United States.) Do you think it would be possible to accomplish it with a million dollars?

Lexie, I was in South Korea but did not get to that area. I would love to go there again and visit the JSA on the Demilitarized Zone as you have done to satisfy my thirst for travel. But, when North Korea opens up, I will beat you there or let's go together. BTW at 14:57, I would have made the same smirk knowing that thirst and desire to see the JSA was moments away but you had to view the video that stood in the way. I laughed so hard and reviewed the tape several times.

I was in the 2019 marathon! Green card holder but not citizen though. Learn some korean before you go so that you can converse with the locals when you can travel there again.
Also absolutely ridiculous if they can charge american as a felony to visit north korea. It’s your first amendment. How can they charge a crime based on nationality only? American government hypocrisy at it’s finest. How about me non american but lived in America? Am i a wanted felon too? Ridiculous. How can a free country not allow communism (there’s an actual law on this) or make traveling to another country a felony?
