Last week we were delivering and installing mason bee houses, and they are just such awesome little critters. Look at this male who flew right out to stretch his wee legs and wings! The males fly out first; he’ll soon scent mark the outside of the tube so he knows where to return to find the females.😍🐝
These hardworking insects have a 95% pollination rate, where honeybees have a 5% pollination rate. They contribute to a healthy and robust garden and harvest, and some will often nest nearby, adding to the local bee population. They’re solitary and don’t have a queen to protect, so they’re not at all aggressive and don’t sting. Bee sure to tag us in your mason bee photos and videos! They’re just so darn cute!
